Mass transit - a plan deferred.
Asheville has a reasonably good bus transit system that could be great with increased investment. Why is our city dragging it’s feet on upgrading this critical piece of infrastructure? Perhaps the reason lies in the bus ridership. According to surveys, 90% of the ART riders are living in poverty. But of course, the absence of reliable mass transit impacts us all; whether we are waiting in traffic, bemoaning the increasing cost of living, or viewing our mountains through a polluted haze, it’s time to get on the bus!
